Review: 40730 Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber
40730 Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber is the third life-size lightsaber to be designed as a gift-with-purchase, based on Luke's weapon from Return of the Jedi. Appearing during Han Solo's rescue from Jabba the Hutt, this is a fitting companion for 75397 Jabba's Sail Barge. I think Luke's green lightsaber is among the most popular designs and its splashes of colour beyond silver and black should benefit the model, especially since it should complement the previous lightsabers in this burgeoning series. © 2024 Brickset.com. LEGO may be considering phasing out paper instructions
A new activity has appeared in the Insiders Rewards centre entitled Sustainable Building: Help us decide the future of LEGO Building Instructions! The description goes on to suggest that the company could be considering "reduc[ing] our paper usage by switching to digital building instructions", which is something that I know many of you feel very strongly about. If that applies to you, I suggest that you let LEGO know what you think by partaking in the survey, for which you'll receive 50 points. Update 19th Sept 14:15: It looks as if the survey has been removed, perhaps as a result of the storm of protest it has caused here and on other blogs, or perhaps because it was very poorly designed and worded. Review: 10370 Poinsettia
Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) is a succulent that's native to Central America and a popular houseplant over the festive period due to its seasonally-coloured green and red leaves. However, in my experience, they never seem to thrive indoors during the winter, where the lighting and atmospheric conditions are not conducive to their wellbeing. There will be no such problem with 10370 Poinsettia, though, which will flourish in even the coldest and darkest LEGO room. © 2024 Brickset.com. Republication prohibited without prior permission. |

40726 Batman 85th Anniversary, which comprises BrickHeadz set 40748 Batman 8 in 1 and some posters in a fancy box, is now available, but not as a GWP as originally predicted: it's an Insiders reward. The limited edition set can be yours in exchange for 3,000 points in the Rewards Centre. Additionally, LEGO's Batman Day promotion has started, but it's a bit underwhelming: you'll receive polybag 30653 Batman 1992 when you spend over £40/€40/$40 on Batman sets, and double or triple points on selected ones, between now and the 23rd September. © 2024 Brickset.com. Review: 77072 Peely Bone
Peely Bone is an outfit available in Fortnite, originally released for the Battle Royale game mode in 2019 as a new form of the very popular banana character, Peely. Initially, the model wasn’t planned to be developed into a retail LEGO set—it was created by a designer as a gift to another LEGO employee. After Epic Games saw the design, nobody could resist turning it into a real set, so this large-scale statuette is here in all its gruesome glory to cheerfully terrify us. © 2024 Brickset.com. Great Western Brick Show, Swindon, 5-6 October
The longest-running LEGO show in the UK takes place again this year during the first weekend of October at the STEAM museum in Swindon. It's the 21st edition of the event, which has become one of the biggest and best in the UK. Tickets are available online that include admission to the show and the museum of the Great Western Railway at which it is held. Queues to buy tickets on the day can be lengthy, so I advise buying in advance. I will be there again this year contributing to the Great Ball Contraption loop and will have a limited number of 1x8 Brickset bricks to give away to Brickset users who come and say hello, so I hope to see you there! Five fun references from LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy has arrived on Disney+ this week, featuring a new version of the Star Wars galaxy and reimagining numerous familiar characters and vehicles. As usual for LEGO animation, the series is packed with neat references and details for LEGO fans to appreciate. I have identified five of my favourites, but before looking at those, I am going to give a brief review of the series as a whole. There are no story spoilers in this article, although I do cover some cameo appearances, most of which have appeared in marketing materials. © 2024 Brickset.com. Review: 40750 Wednesday & Enid
40750 Wednesday & Enid are BrickHeadz numbers 252 and 253 and, surprisingly, they're the first of the blocky characters that we've reviewed this year. It is also perhaps surprising that the divisive theme seems to have become an evergreen one, now in its 7th year. Other than introducing new franchises to it, innovation is rare, but there is one aspect of this set which is unique and which may signal a change in direction for future ones. © 2024 Brickset.com. Review: 31213 Mona Lisa
Let’s face it, realistic human faces are difficult to build in bricks. As the Art theme develops in leaps and bounds, designers are getting more and more ambitious in the plastic representation of well-known works of art. Not least of these is this latest impressive interpretation of one of the most famous faces on the planet. While I’m glad that the Star Wars Helmet Collection sticks to heads without faces, I’m excited to find out whether this attempt matches the high bar set by MOC builders. © 2024 Brickset.com. Made to be Played: Scala
This is the third in our series of Made to be Played articles that highlight how LEGO's durability and quality enable it to be passed on to future generations one way or another. I would have liked to have written about how I handed down the sets I had as a kid in the pre-minifig 1970s era on to my two daughters to play with, but it didn't work out like that because I traded them with a collector in the USA in exchange for Technic and Blacktron at the dawn of the Internet, and I was not unhappy with the swap. There's no need to feel sorry for my daughters, though, because they certainly didn't go short and, very fortuitously, they were just at the right age when LEGO introduced Scala. They had a large collection that we bought on the many visits to LEGOLAND Windsor during the late 1990s which is now in my loft, waiting for the time when it can be passed on to their children. So, instead of writing about handing down my old sets, my daughter Alice and I have retrieved the Scala from storage to rediscover what's there, and to determine whether it'll be usable by future generations. © 2024 Brickset.com. Review: 77071 Supply Llama
Fortnite’s famous piñata-style Loot Llama, properly known as the Supply Llama, comes vibrantly to life in LEGO with its characteristic silly face and colourful body. In this wave, two of the sets are scaled to LEGO Fortnite, and two are standalone display pieces representing aspects of the main game; this is one of the latter. The Llama’s epic size does allow it to contain some true-to-scale LEGO Fortnite loot, which in the game it explodes into when petted by the player. After the Llama’s in-game debut six years ago, let’s see what LEGO has come up with for this Epic icon. © 2024 Brickset.com. Republication prohibited without prior permission. |

Review: 77070 Durrr Burger
LEGO Fortnite’s target audience are right at the cusp of moving from playsets to more complex builds or display sets, so the first set of the Fortnite theme is a children’s display piece representing the easily-recognised Durrr Burger. The burger is a mascot for the in-game Durrr Burger Restaurant chain, which has been around since the early days of Fortnite in 2017 and nowadays is also buildable within the LEGO Fortnite Durrr Burger Bundle. Let’s have a look at how the designers have approached an item that now exists in both real and virtual bricks. © 2024 Brickset.com. Republication prohibited without prior permission. |

85th anniversary of Batman set revealed
A future gift with purchase has been revealed on the Australian LEGO.com pages which celebrates Batman's 85th anniversary. Don't get too excited, though, because it's just 40748 Batman 8 in 1 in a fancy box with a folded-up pamphlet that appears to illustrate the different versions of the figure. There's no word yet on when 40726 Limited Edition Batman 85th Anniversary will be available or what you'll need to spend to get it, but given that the official day to mark the occasion is 21st September, I think it's fair to assume it'll be on or around then. © 2024 Brickset.com.
